Yama
The three-phase fight in the Chasm of Fire, solo or as a duo, and what it pays.
Yama, the Master of Pacts is a solo or duo boss in his own arena, instanced per attempt. There is nothing to unlock and no scroll to read: ::yama takes you in, and the Bosses row of the teleport window has him too.
Death inside is safe. ::yama again walks you out once you have picked your loot up.
The fight
He has 2,500 hitpoints across three phases and never leaves the arena.
- Phase one is a damage race with a tell. Five glyph pads light on the floor, and the pair beside his throne share a colour that tells you which style he opens with. Standing on a lit glyph costs you health and puts it out, but it makes you immune to his next fire or shadow special - so the pads are the fight, not scenery to avoid.
- Phase two upgrades those specials into the meteor, a 5x5 crater on your tile that also switches your run off, and the shadow stomp, which pierces every protection prayer, roots you and drains prayer. Only the matching glyph stops either.
- Phase three takes the glyphs away for good, roots him at the centre of the arena and speeds him up. His melee pierces Protect from Melee for 22 now rather than 6.
Throughout, he summons void flares: inert adds that charge and then detonate for heavy damage, handing him back whatever charge they had left. Kill them. A Purging staff special destroys one outright and gives him nothing.
He is immune to poison and venom, and takes 20% more from demonbane weapons than an ordinary demon.
The Judge of Yama
At 66.6% and 33.3% he exiles you to a side pocket and you face the Judge of Yama, 400 hitpoints on a platform across a lava channel. Jump the stepping stones one row at a time to reach it, dodging the fire it rains on the lattice as you cross.
The Judge is a puzzle, not a damage check. It holds two protection prayers at once, Missiles is always one of them, and it swaps the other to whatever style just hit it - so melee and magic alternate, and ranged never works at all. Anything that does get through always lands, and always lands for your maximum.
Yama takes no damage and lands no attacks until the Judge is dead.
Duoing him
::yamaparty opens the party window. Invite your partner there or by right-clicking them; they answer with the line in their chat box, or ::partyaccept. There is no door to walk through - the party leader's `::yama` takes you both in.
A duo shares one arena and one Yama. He is not scaled down for it, so the second set of hands is the whole advantage, and three things change:
- Void flares come in pairs, one fire and one shadow, rather than one at a time.
- A glyph only protects the player who stood on it. Your partner's immunity is not yours.
- An intermission sends you to opposite pockets, with a Judge each. You are returned to the arena the moment your own Judge dies, but Yama stays untouchable until the last one falls, so a fast partner cannot skip your crossing.
If your partner leaves, dies or logs out, the run carries on for whoever is still in it, at exactly the health and phase it was.
What he pays
Both members of a duo are paid their own full drop. Rates here are set per hour rather than per kill, and a duo roughly halves the kill, so a shared drop would make duoing worse than soloing.
