Community events

Standing races the game judges by itself, the HP event in the arena at home, and what both of them pay.

Community events are run by staff and settled by the game. There are two shapes - a race, which is a standing "first to do X" that can be open for days, and an HP event, which is a live fight in the arena at home that lasts half an hour at most.

::events opens the board and is open to everybody. It lists every race that is running, what each one is first to, and what it pays. The World Events tab of your journal counts the open races and will teleport you into a live HP event.

Races

A host declares a race and then has nothing more to do: the game watches the same moment it already watches to announce a pet or a purple, and the first eligible account across the line wins on the tick it happens. The prize is paid straight away and one line goes out to the world.

The kinds are:

| First to... | Settled when | |---|---| | A boss pet | any boss pet drops for you | | A skilling pet | any skilling pet drops for you | | A unique from a named source | that boss or raid pays you one of its uniques | | A named item | that item is added to your collection log | | Max | your last skill reaches 99 | | A full clue log | your clue pages are complete |

A seventh kind, manual, is anything a host wants to run that the game cannot judge - those are awarded by hand.

A race can also be for one account type: a race declared for Ironmen is won by the first Ironman to do it and nobody else. The board says so on the row.

Some races stay open for a while and some are won in an hour. A settled race stays on the board for thirty days with the winner's name on it, then falls off.

The HP event

The events arena is the walled room south-east of the plaza. In an HP event the host stands in it and cannot be hurt - instead there is a pool of health on a bar across the top of everybody's screen, and every point of damage anybody lands on the host drains it.

::hpevent teleports you in while one is running. There is no other way in and there is no door: the ring of walls is unbroken, so the only way out is a teleport.

When the pool empties - or when thirty minutes are up, or when the host ends it - the top three by damage are paid.

Two rules are worth knowing before you go in, and they are the same rule twice: what you carry in is what you fight with.

  • Presets do not load inside the arena. Loading one would bank what you are holding and hand back a whole loadout, which is a restock in the middle of a fight.
  • Teleporting out strikes your damage off the ledger. All of it. The game asks you to confirm first if you have any damage to lose. Logging out is not the same thing and keeps your total, so a dropped connection does not cost you the event.

The pool is not refunded when somebody leaves - it is what the host promised to hand out, and giving damage back to it would leave an event nobody could finish.

Only one place is paid per network, so a second account on the same connection does not take a second podium slot.

Who can win

Anybody except the host and senior staff. Moderators can win - they are recruited out of the playerbase, they neither choose the prize nor pay it.

What events pay

A fixed table of seventeen prizes in three bands, and nothing outside it:

| Band | What is on it | |---|---| | Small | 25,000 or 50,000 blood money, and seven of the booster scrolls | | Medium | 100,000 blood money, a Tournament, Slayer or Untradeable mystery box, a Donator ticket | | Large | a Donator mystery box, five Donator tickets, a Christmas cracker |

A host may hand out six prizes a day, of which at most one large and three medium, so a large prize is a real event rather than a routine one.

If you win while you are offline the prize is held and handed over the next time you log in.
