Item repair

The eleven untradeables that break instead of dropping, what Perdu charges, and what your killer takes.

Eleven untradeable items do not drop when you die in the deep Wilderness. They break, stay with you, and have to be mended before they can be worn again.

When it applies

Above Wilderness level 20, and nowhere else. Below that line, and everywhere outside the Wilderness, a death does not touch them at all.

The eleven

  • Fire cape and Infernal cape
  • Dragon defender and Avernic defender
  • Fighter torso
  • The Void knight top, robe and gloves, and all three Void helms

The Infernal cape and the Avernic defender are on the list precisely because nothing sells them: losing one outright would mean re-running the Inferno or the Theatre for it.

Perdu

He stands by the Edgeville ditch, on the way out. Talk to him and he quotes the whole job.

  • The four coin repairs are capped at 100,000 coins each, whatever the item is worth. A bill somebody will never pay is not a cost, it is a cape that sits in a bank for ever.
  • The Void pieces are priced in blood money, from 600 for a helm or gloves up to 2,000 for the torso.
  • Donator ranks pay less - the discount ladder is on the perks page.

What your killer gets

65% of the repair bill, as salvage. That is the transfer of risk: what you have to pay to get your cape back is most of what the person who killed you walks away with.

It is only paid when the risk was real. There is no payout for a death to a monster, no payout for killing yourself, and no payout when both accounts are on the same network - and the salvage is always less than the cheapest new copy of the item, so breaking your own gear can never be a way to mint money.

An already-broken item cannot break again, so a second death costs you nothing extra until you have paid Perdu.

Barrows gear

Barrows pieces are a separate animal: they are not on the break-on-death list, and losing a set no longer degrades it. Anything damaged before that rule arrived is mended by Perdu at 5,000 coins a piece.
